Prior to joining Healthpoint, Dr. Merry Borja del Val has been working as an orthopedic surgery consultant in NMC Royal Hospital, Abu-Dhabi since 2017.
Dr. Merry del Val received his medical degree from the Complutense University in Madrid, Spain in 2002. He completed his residency at the Asepeyo Hospital, in Madrid, a trauma center specialized in Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation for occupational injuries.
Dr. Borja completed is Doctorate degree courses in Musculoskeletal System at the Autonoma University of Madrid in 2004.
Dr. Merry del Val started his professional career as a Consultant in orthopedic surgery in Puerta de Hierro University Hospital, in Madrid, a 613 bed facility which is considered one of the most prestigious hospitals in Spain and an accredited teaching center of the ESSKA (European Society of Sports, Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy). He worked as a consultant in the orthopedic surgery department from 2009 to 2017, where he also became an active member of the bone tumor committee.
Dr. Merry del Val received a prestigious award from “The Spanish Joint Arthroscopy Association and the Spanish Knee society” for a study he developed on meniscus sutures. He is also a faculty and instructor for the European Arthroscopy Fellowship and a teaching partner of the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonoma University of Madrid, one of the biggest and most important and well recognized public universities in Spain.
In 2015 he became a Fellow member of the European Board of Orthopedics and Traumatology in Rotterdam, where he is serving as a fellowship examiner.
Dr. Borja gathers more than 15 years of experience in the field of sports medicine and joint replacement surgeries, having performed more than 5000 arthroscopic procedures and over 2200 knee and hip replacements.
His area of expertise is Minimally Invasive Hip replacement surgery (MIS I), with more than 1800 hip replacements performed during his career.
Dr. Borja has attended many specialization courses and conferences, both in Spain and abroad. He has also produced as an author or co-author an extensive amount of research, with many articles and book chapters published in impact journals and publishing houses. He has had abstracts in medical congresses to his credit.
As an example of his altruistic commitment to serving patients in need, Dr. Merry del Val collaborates as a visiting Orthopedic Surgeon at the Sheikh Khalifa Hospital, in Socotra, Yemen.
Dr. Borja speaks English and Spanish, as well as some basic Arabic, holding both U.S. and Spanish citizenship.
