Dr. Jovanovic, who joined Healthpoint in 2023, brings 25 years of combined experience in sports medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation. In 1993, Dr. Jovanovic graduated from the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Medicine, Serbia, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
Dr. Jovanovic continued to pursue his specialist studies and completed his residency training in Sports Medicine from 1995 till 1999 at the prestigious Sports Institute of the Republic of Serbia and acquired his professional title, Specialist of Sports Medicine.
Before joining Healthpoint, Dr. Jovanovic worked at Medicentres Polyclinic in Dubai, UAE, where he held the position of Specialist in Sports Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Additionally, he served as a Specialist Doctor and Clinic Consultant in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Al Jazira Sports Club Medical Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Dr. Jovanovic’s specialties include the non-surgical management of musculoskeletal injuries caused by sports or recreational activities in both the general population and professional athletes, exercise prescriptions, advanced rehabilitation protocols for “return-to-play”, injury prevention, functional testing such as cardio-pulmonary exercise testing and strength assessments using dynamometers, and performance enhancement.
He performs pre-competitive medical assessments and certifications for professional sports. He is also qualified to provide wellness and executive health assessments for both male and female recreational sports practitioners across all age groups.
Furthermore, Dr. Jovanovic is an expert in sports supplementation, hormone replacement therapy and ergogenic aid protocols. He is skilled in prescribing physiotherapy protocols, utilizing diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, and offering minimally invasive treatment procedures as needed by the patient.
For the past two decades, Dr. Jovanovic has played a pivotal role in the management of various sporting institutions in the UAE. His extensive experience includes serving as the team doctor or chief medical officer for prestigious organizations such as the UAE Football Association National Team, UAE FA Olympic Team, Al Wahda FC, Al Wasl FC, Shabab Al Ahli FC, Al Nasr FC, Al Jazira FC, and Arabian Gulf Rugby Football Union.
In addition to his contributions to sports medicine within the UAE, Dr. Jovanovic has actively participated in major international sporting events. Notably, he was part of the medical teams at the Olympic Games in London (2012) and Brazil (2016), as well as the FIFA World Cup in France (1998), South Africa (2010), Brazil (2014), Russia (2018) and Qatar (2022).
Dr. Jovanovic brings a unique perspective to his medical career, having been a former professional football player himself.
